Deshaun Watson Should Request A Trade

Deshaun Watson
Bill O’Brien is doing his best to tank the Texans. It’s time for Deshaun Watson to request a trade before O’Brien ruins his career. (Trask Smith/UPI)

I believe Deshaun Watson is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. The man is a magician on the field and often times does things that take your breath away. Watson carried his team to a playoff win over the Bills. Watson put his team out in front over the Chiefs 24-0. That’s the problem. It’s Watson doing Watson things while nobody else can hold their weight. That was before the DeAndre Hopkins trade…

It’s not hard to see what’s going on with the Texans right now. Bill O’Brien doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing and simultaneously tanking the team. Let’s take a look at the trade history of GM O’Brien

  • Jadeveon Clowney for a third round pick, Jacob Martin, and Barkevious Mingo. YIKES
  • Laremy Tunsil and Kenny Stills for two first round picks and a 2nd round pick. Tunsil is a good player but a terrible overpay.
  • Duke Johnson for a third round pick. Somehow, O’Brien essentially swapped Clowney for Duke Johnson. WTF?
  • Gareon Conley for a third round pick. Again, giving away premium picks for players with little value.

Then comes the hammer. Trading away DeAndre Hopkins is inexcusably bad. It’s probably one of the worst trades in NFL history. DeAndre Hopkins and a 4th for David Johnson and a 2nd. I don’t think O’Brien watched a single Cardinals game last year. Let me sum up what David Johnson looked like last year.

David Johnson is totally washed. He lost his starting job to Kenyan Drake and was less effective than Chase Edmonds. Who? Yeah, that guy. Not to mention the fact that Johnson has a ridiculous contract that Arizona probably should have had to part with a valuable pick just to get rid of him. They somehow steal arguably the best receiver in football for a player with negative value. If that doesn’t describe how Bill O’Brien doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing then I don’t know what does.

Deshaun Watson has a choice. He can either let O’Brien tank his career like he’s doing with this roster or create his own destiny. Things are going to keep getting worse for the Texans. They have no draft picks this year or next year. They also have very little accending young talent. They also have an offensive line that hasn’t shown any ability to protect Watson. So what’s it going to be? I think the choice is obvious. Deshaun Watson needs to be pushing for a trade.
